Blindness Awareness Month

This month of October is Blindness Awareness Month. In honor of this month, we want to share a little bit about a blessing to our family: our son Aedyn. We also want to say thank you so very much for being amazing, loyal customers.

Aedyn is legally blind, or visually impaired, from bilateral optic nerve hypoplasia (ONH) and nystagmus. He uses a big closed-circuit TV and a portable one to help him read and write by magnifying print. These are amazing devices as they can take ant print and make it as big as a hand. He also reads and writes Braille. He walks using a white cane in unfamiliar areas, but he has a magnificent memory and still sees a little bit, so he doesn't need to use it in familiar places. He wanted to take the picture you see here with much of the equipment he uses to help him everyday.

Even though he has these differences, he is learning to be a beast at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In this close contact sport, he can feel exactly where his opponent is at all times and detect small movements with his heightened senses.

He also is a musical genius. This is strangely common of children with ONH. He says he hears notes like we see colors. He hears it and knows what note it is, like we see purple and know it's purple. Because of this, he can play many songs by ear on piano after hearing them.

As a small, family business, part of the profits from your purchases directly help us provide the tools he needs for functioning independently and developing his skills. For that, we thank you greatly. Thank you for believing in our company and products, and for making it possible to make Aedyn's life better. You never know all the ways you are making a difference!
